Celebrating 10 Years of NSP
Dear Friends and Supporters, As I reflect on the journey of Nanka School Project (NSP) since its founding in October 2013, I am filled with immense gratitude and optimism for the future.
NSP was born from my experiences returning to Nanka, my hometown, in 2013, where I witnessed facilities at the Community High School Nanka (CHSN) that had deteriorated beyond all recognition since my time as a student there in the 1980s. Right before my eyes, it was as if CHSN represented the vast and serious challenges facing the children of Nanka and our wider community.
Witnessing CHSN in this dilapidated condition, I knew that something had to be done. And by founding NSP, I hoped to enable a fund-raising mission for restoration and improvement of the school. Our early efforts were met with remarkable support, and since 2013 CHSN has been transformed through the generosity of NSP’s donors and volunteers. Well-maintained facilities and educational support have helped contribute to remarkable growth in the academic success of CHSN students.
But our mission did not end with education. As a healthcare professional, I have long understood the value in a ‘whole of health’ approach for the wellbeing of both individuals and the wider community. Therefore, it was an exciting moment in 2015 when NSP made the decision to extend our reach to help address Nanka’s most pressing healthcare and sanitation issues. Since then, we have held annual free medical clinics, delivered a steady stream of medical supplies, and added a water borehole at the Community Secondary School Nanka (CSSN) to support sanitation and other critical water needs.
Looking to the future, we will continue building towards a self-sustaining cycle of re-investment back into Nanka to benefit future generations. In this effort, we will need your support more than ever as we aim to equip the community high school with a state-of-the-art computer lab, provide sustainable water supply for CHSN, and strengthen Nanka hospital's capacity to deliver vital healthcare services.
I invite you to join us for these next steps in our journey. Together, we can uplift the youth of Nanka, provide them with the tools to thrive in the 21st century, and secure a healthier future for our community and our country.
"Through our work on health & education, NSP’s success shows that a culture of giving back can open pathways to greater prosperity for Nanka, for other communities in Anambra State, and even beyond."

How did you first get involved with NSP?
Gift: It was quite a coincidence! Back in 2014, Chinyere happened to share her plan for CHSN with me. Her desire to help students in Nanka made me want to help with NSP in any way that I could.
Tobi: Following a medical mission trip in Ecuador, I wanted to do similar work in Nigeria. I was introduced to NSP and to Chinyere by her daughter Christine and have been involved with NSP ever since. What aspects of NSP’s mission are you most proud to be involved with?
Gift: I have been mostly involved with the medical mission, which NSP holds every year. We are truly saving lives.
Tobi: I’m especially proud of our efforts to ensure that Nanka students are able to learn in a conducive school environment.
What has been your favorite moment working with NSP?
Gift: Sharing palliative treatments with the community is always memorable.
Tobi: I was privileged to visit Nanka in 2019 as part of the organization’s annual medical mission trip. As well as getting to meet Gift and other members of the NSP community, as well as the students that we serve, it was a great experience getting to witness NSP’s impact on the ground in real-time.
What are some things that excite you about NSP’s future?
Gift: NSP has for the past ten years never stopped giving back to the community and I believe we will continue to serve, work, and touch people's lives for a long time to come.
Tobi: We are getting bolder and more ambitious in our undertakings, so I’m excited to see the scale of our impact grow. For example, one of our biggest efforts yet is an ongoing project to revitalize the computer lab at CHSN and provide support that will equip students to acquire the necessary technology skills for our digital world.
To you, what sets NSP apart and makes it special?
Gift: For me, what makes NSP special is that we deliver continued success. Each year we are completing new projects to improve school facilities and support the Nanka community.
Tobi: Chinyere’s unwavering dedication to making a real difference where she grew up is really inspiring and serves as a rallying point for the NSP team.
