Nanka School Project (NSP) 8TH Year Anniversary “Technology Project”

The mission of Nanka School Project (NSP) is to empower students with quality education in a safe and clean environment. Prior to NSP’s involvement at Community High School (CHS) Nanka, the learning environment for students was unacceptable and bleak. Students were sitting in flooded classrooms, with no electricity or plumbing, poor sanitation, and lack of qualified teachers in various subject areas. The situation was dire and needed urgent attention.

NSP was founded in October 2013 to enhance CHS Nanka and expand students’ opportunities. Before NSP, CHS Nanka was not an approved center for national exams such as WAEC (West African Examinations Council) and NECO (National Examinations Council of Nigeria). In their final year, students transferred to another school to take exams. In addition, students’ academic performance was extremely poor at the time.

Since its founding, NSP has provided the school with a well-equipped library, writing materials for students, electricity in the science laboratories, toilets, and increased environmental safety (fence) among other things.

The work by NSP has led to improvements in student performance. In January 2020, CHS Nanka students participated in the “2020 Student for The Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship Business Innovation Challenge.” CHS Nanka students achieved first place in their category, competing with schools from 36 states across the federation.  Again, in July 2021, CHS Nanka students won first place among public schools in the Anambra State Science Quiz Competition.

It’s amazing what these students have been able to accomplish with the additional help of NSP. We believe that they will achieve much more once exposed to technology. Science and technology education enables students to create solutions for Nigeria's key challenges.

To mark NSP's eighth years anniversary, a technology center will be established at CHS Nanka in memory of an NSP volunteer who died in a car accident three years ago.   This individual was extremely hard working, enthusiastic about education and service, and was applying for graduate school before the deadly incident.

T

o make the technology center a reality, we need your financial support. We also need laptop computers and to build a solar panel. We could also use volunteers with expertise in these areas: computer specialist, IT tech, solar power, and anyone with basic knowledge of computer education.
