Coordinating medical mission trips to address the healthcare needs of the local community
Nanka School Project (NSP) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The mission of the organization is to rehabilitate and improve the quality of education in a Nigerian rural community, Nanka. In addition, the organization recently began coordinating medical mission trips to address the healthcare needs of the local community.
In June 2015, NSP organized a two-day medical mission at Ofuobi Maternal and Child Hospital, Nanka, Nigeria. During this event, around three hundred residents received much-needed medical care and supplies administered and distributed by thirty on-site volunteers. Men, women, and children came to receive free medical care and medications. Frequent medical concerns include chronic pain, malaria, hypertension, diabetes, digestive disorders, and eye conditions.
Chronic diseases have become increasingly prevalent in developing countries. Through health promotion, nutrition counseling, and medical screenings for diabetes and hypertension, we hope to reduce the global burden of these diseases as well as others.
Thanks to the Brother’s Brother Foundation and the University of Georgia health Center Pharmacy for their assistance in getting the medications, eyeglasses, and medical supplies.
